Northwest Family Biological started in the great Pacific Northwest by long time owl pellet collector, Michael Parsons. Growing up in the small town of Hood River, OR, there was never a lack of scenic attraction. Between beautiful Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, amazing waterfalls, hiking trails, etc, wild life became his passion. Specifically the Tyto Alba, commonly known as the Barn Owl. While studying the bird migrations and collecting the pellets, Mike realized that many old barns and out buildings were dilapidation and falling down, causing owls to lose their dwellings and safely nest. Adding another feather to his hat, Mike decided to travel to numerous states, erecting barn owl boxes.
A barn owl box creates a safe space where the owls can live peacefully, while they clutch (raise their Owlets) 1-2 times a year without the fear of predators. The barn owl population has been declining over the years, and like Mike always says and lives by, “Always do your part”. The barn owl box program is a testament to that. The barn owl boxes not only create positive population numbers with these owls, but also creates natural rodent control . A single Barn owl family can eat up to 6,000 mice, voles, and other rodents a year.
