Why Paper Pulp?

Paper pulp is one of the most eco-friendly packaging materials available. It's made from recycled fibers, breaks down naturally, and — best of all — can be transformed back into usable paper right at home or in the classroom!

How to Turn Your Container Back Into Paper

Follow these simple steps to recycle your paper pulp container into a new sheet of paper:

1. Tear it up — Break the container into small pieces.
2. Soak in water — Place the pieces in warm water for 30–60 minutes until softened.
3. Blend into a slurry — Use a blender to pulverize the soaked pieces into a smooth, even mixture.
4. Pour onto a screen — Pour the pulp slurry onto a mesh or window screen placed over a tray. Spread it out evenly.
5. Press out the water — Use a sponge or clean cloth to press and absorb excess moisture.
6. Dry flat — Let your sheet dry in the sun or indoors for 24–48 hours.
7. Peel & enjoy — Once fully dry, peel your new recycled paper sheet off the screen and use it however you like!

A Great Classroom Activity

This process is a fantastic hands-on lesson in environmental science, the water cycle, and materials science. It pairs perfectly with owl pellet dissection as part of a broader ecology unit.
